Data Collection Process
Our Google review rating benchmarks are compiled through systematic analysis of publicly available Google Business Profile data. We collect and analyze review ratings from businesses across the United States to establish industry-specific performance standards.
Statistical Approach

- Geographic Coverage: Major metropolitan areas across all US states
- Update Frequency: Quarterly data refresh (January, April, July, October)
- Data Points: Median, Average, Minimum, Maximum, and 75th percentile ratings
Industry Classification
Businesses are categorized into 21 distinct industries based on their primary Google Business Profile category. Each industry grouping represents similar business types with comparable customer review patterns.
Quality Assurance
We ensure data quality by:
- Excluding businesses with fewer than 10 reviews to ensure statistical significance
- Verifying business categories through multiple data points
- Removing duplicate or inactive business listings
- Cross-referencing ratings with business operational status
